• Are tour leaders allowed to administer medication for health issues on the trip?

  No, for legal reasons, our leaders are prohibited from administering any type of drug, including headache tablets or antibiotics. It is recommended that you carry a personal first-aid kit.

• What types of accommodation are used during this tour?

  Accommodation includes hotels/guesthouses for 6 nights, camping for 3 nights, and a stay at the exclusive G Lodge Amazon for 2 nights.

• What are the camping conditions like on the Inca Trail?

  During the Inca Trail, three-person tents are used to accommodate two travelers, leaving room for your sleeping mats and sleeping bags (available for rent). Private toilet tents are also set up for travelers' use.

• Is there reliable hot water and electricity in all accommodations?

  Please note that hot water shortages and power outages can be fairly common in Peru, even in upgraded hotels and private homes. At G Lodge Amazon, rooms are comfortable with solar-heated hot water and candles for lighting (no electricity).

• Are there elevators in the hotels?

  Please be aware that properties with only two stories may not have elevators installed, and climbing stairs with luggage will be necessary.

• What meals are included in the tour price?

  The tour includes 11 breakfasts, 6 lunches, and 5 dinners. Meals during trekking in remote regions are typically included and are plentiful, made from fresh local ingredients.

• What is the typical breakfast like when provided?

  Breakfast will typically include toast, coffee, and tea, though this may vary depending on the city.

• What activities are included in the tour?

  Included activities are a guided tour of the Sacred Valley, a visit to a women's weaving co-op, a pottery-making demonstration, a meal at the Parwa Community Restaurant, a guided Inca Trail hike with cooks and porters, a guided Machu Picchu tour, a 3-day Amazon Jungle stay at G Lodge Amazon with guided excursions led by naturalists, rubber boot use, and all internal flights and transport between destinations.

• Are there optional activities available to enhance the experience?

  Yes, optional activities include a Lima Cooking Class, Lima City Tour, Full Day Lima Experience, Cusco City Tour, Inka Museum, Cusco Cooking Class, Cusco Tourist Ticket, Rainbow Mountain Hike, and a hike to the Ollantaytambo storehouses.

• What happens if the Inca Trail is closed during my trip?

  Portions of the Inca Trail are closed for maintenance in February each year, and closures may occur at other times due to weather. During these periods, any affected tour will hike the Lares Trek instead.

• Can I opt out of the Inca Trail hike and still visit Machu Picchu?

  Yes, you can advise at the time of booking if you prefer not to hike the Inca Trail. Instead, you will have 2 nights in Cusco, travel by train for a night in Aguas Calientes, and join the hikers for the tour of Machu Picchu.

• Will there be Wi-Fi or cellular service available during the trek?

  Please note that there will be no Wi-Fi and limited cellular service available for much of the trek.

• What is the local currency in Peru?

  The currency in Peru is the Nuevo Sol (PEN).

• Are credit and debit cards widely accepted?

  Credit and debit cards, especially Visa, are useful for cash advances, but there's no guarantee they will work everywhere. It's advisable to carry a combination of cash and cards, and be aware that a 5-10% fee usually applies for credit card purchases.

• What is the recommended amount for tipping guides and staff?

  Tipping is customary. For the Inca Trail, suggested contributions to a collective pool are: Head guide: 15-30 USD, Assistant guide: 10-20 USD, Trekking crew: 40 USD. For local guides at the end of each trip, a guideline of 10-15 USD per person, per week is suggested.

• Do I need an emergency fund?

  Yes, it is recommended to have access to at least an additional USD $200 (or equivalent) as an emergency fund for unforeseen circumstances outside of our control, such as natural disasters requiring a route change.

• Is there a single supplement fee for solo travelers?

  Our group trips are designed for shared accommodation and do not involve a single supplement. Single travelers are paired in twin or multi-share accommodation with someone of the same sex. Exceptions apply for camping nights and the G Lodge Amazon.

• What kind of local communities does this tour support?
